Czechoslovakiai (today split in Czech and Slovakaia) were in 1958 still part of the URSS. And of course together with the URSS, it was important that this country was able to show the success of the communisim political system together with the knowledge in nuclear technologies and cultural activities.

It is clearly seen through the extensive marketing program of Czechoslovakaia at Expo 58 that it was important to show the cultural background of the country.

The program was based on concerts, operas and puppet shows.

So on Wednesday 23 July, the program (English and French)

  • 10.00am at the Building of Czechoslovakaia: Central Concert of the Czechoslovakian Army using exclusively wind instruments. At the same time, same location, "ensemble slovaque des Ecoles Supérieures Lucnica, chansons et danses populaires tchèques et slovaques".
  • 10.30 at the Small Auditorium: Skupa puppets: youth presentation (for international public)
  • 11.15am at Esplanade: Central Concert of the Czechoslovakian Army using exclusively wiind instruments.
  • 14.30 at Esplanade: "Ensemble slovaque des Ecoles Supérieures Lucnica, chansons et danses populaires tchèques et slovaques"
  • 17.00 and 20.00 at Small Auditorium: Skupa puppets show, presentation for adults (international public); including a.) Variety program; b.) Dialog and scenes with Speibl and Hourvinek; c.) The Black Theatre and other experiences
  • 20.15 at Grand Auditorium: Philharmonic Orchestra of Prague conducted by Karel Ancerl. Program: Sinfonietta de Janacek; Vltava de Smetana; Symphony of the New World by Dvorak.

The Program of the next day, Thursday 24 July, looked nearly the same as the day before, except that at 11.00, about 8000 czechoslovakian doves were freed up in the air.
