Everybody knows or should know about the U.P.U., Universal Postal Union. Further information about this organisation can be found at www.upu.int. The sub-organisation CCEP standing for Commission Consultative d'Etudes Postales - Conference of the Consultative Commission of the Postal Studies was the originator of the Congress.

The UPU CCEP Congress was an official Congress related to the EXPO 58, since the introduction speech at the start of the Congress has been added to the list of all Congresses held during the EXPO 58.

The Congress was represented at Congress Center in Brussels, from 19 till 29 May.

The postal service is growing because of several different reasons: the population growth, the decrease of illiteracy, the growth of the movement resources, because the always busier exchange between the nations makes the countries of each other dependenter, the mail traffic has been also involved in the development of the economic and cultural relations.

The post becomes, because of its concentrated network of postal offices, an international funds transporter, a permanent appliances for social certainty, etc.

Finally, the postal service adapts itself continuously to the growing life rhythm in order to offer a set of facilities to its users.

The postal service is not only a transport means for letter, but also becomes a full tool for the diversive exchange, which are stipulated by modern life.

One of the oldest institutions in world has succeeded to stay one of the joungest and most complete.

Up to now only two covers have been identified, one cancelled with the first day of the congress, as well as a cover cancelled on 22 May.

Cover cancelled with 22 May 1958, the stamp is the one issued on 16 March 1958 Day Of Stamp, and the cover is one as used by the UPU of 1952.
